Japanese Stab Binding with Sara Ottomano

During this workshop, learn how to sew books using the Japanese Stab Binding technique. This sewing style creates beautiful sewn lines on the edge of a book which works perfectly for landscape-oriented book formats. We'll create one book using a basic Japanese Stab Binding technique, then create an advanced binding. While you will walk out of class with two books, you will also be given supplies that you can take home to continue bookmaking.

In this class you will learn:

• Two types of Japanese Stab Bindings.

• How to use rubbing plates to add visual texture to book covers.

• How to use beeswax to aid in bookbinding.

Prerequisites: No bookbinding experience is necessary, although experience with hand sewing will be helpful.
